The Bag Man

Not quite the title I thought I would end up with at this stage of my career, but a rather nice article in the latest Wideopen.com magazine.

Click Here and go to Page 115.

Rather chuffed with it would be an understatement.

Oh and here are some links to the people I big up:

Lowepro
Orange bikes
Madison
Geoff Waugh
MTBCut
Grant Robinson
Sim Mainey

Enjoy!

Privateer Geoff Waugh Signature Model

This last week I've mostly been working at the highlight of the UK Photography Calendar Focus on Imaging . Along with talking shop with lots of nice camera type folk, it's a good place to catch up with legends like the young Mr Geoff Waugh who I have the pleasure to say I 'work with' ( rather than follow around like a scary stalker ).

I'm sure it was just a ploy to get me to send him over some of the new camera kit I've been playing with, but I was rather stoked when he handed over a copy of the new Orange Bikes 2011 brochure ( which actually has a picture of me in it ). Nice cover boys!

But this was not the end of gifts....he handed over a copy of the 2nd issue of the kick ass Privateer Mountain Bike magazine ( which features shots he took of the Orange Factory ). Naturally the geek side took over and he kindly signed it for me.

What a guy!

The Daddy of Biking Magazines...

Managed to blag a copy of the new Privateer Biking magazine courtesy of top photographer ( and work colleague ) Geoff Waugh.

I've been reading biking mags for what must be 20 years or something ( flipping eck that is scary ), and this is truely the Daddy of mags. Then again what else would you expect from the stable that came up with Rouleur ?

Cover price is 9 squids, which may seem a little steep, but this is set to be a collectors item already ( should have got Geoff to sign mine seeing as he has lots of shots in it! ).

If I were you, I would buy it...

Tilt-Shift ...a blaggers guide

Santorini Tilt Shift

I've been a fan of Tilt-Shift ever since I saw this video , it really messed with my mind and I still don't quite understand how it works ( which I actually like ).

Anyway, with the new D90 filling me with happy happy joy joy I thought I would look at how I could replicate these images, particularly mimiking the 'minature' effect you can acheive by playing with the depth of field.

Then I had a look at the cost of a Nikon Fit lens...

Now I may think it looks cool, but at £1400 I accepted that I won't be able to re-create these images in my lifetime.

But then good old Geoff Waugh found Tiltshiftmaker!

Simply upload an image, play with the settings and et voila you have a pretty good Tilt-Shift rip-off for free ( and what better cost than that ).

Santorini Tilt Shift

Only problem I have is that you actually have to have images that will 'work'. Close-cropped shots just don't cut it, so you have to think about more landscapey type images ( which to date I haven't really taken ).

I'll be taking more shots just so I can play with this softwear. However in the meantime you can check out my first attempts here.

Am I getting to geeky? ( just don't ask me about the problems of opening D90 RAW images on CS2... )
